Legal requirements to take under age driving lessons – at least 14 years old and able to read a car number plate, at a distance of 20.5 metres (that’s about the length of a cricket pitch).   If you need glasses you should wear them to do this.

The courses are run by DSA approved driving instructors and comprise of 2-6 hour sessions with up to three students in the car.

The course covers: car controls, moving off and stopping, road safety and the main manoeuvres.

"The Young Driver Track is a new facility and features about 3 miles of quiet, wide private roads that include: marked junctions, mini-roundabouts, dual carriageway, pedestrian crossing and separate areas for manoeuvring and carrying out reversing exercises.  It is a very safe environment and is the ideal facility for starting to learn to drive."

We encourage you to get your parents involved and we would be happy to discuss all aspects of the course with your parents.

All of the instructors drive modern cars with up-to-date safety equipment, air conditioning and manual / automatic transmission.

The professional Driving Instructor’s who run these courses have years of teaching experience. They are fully insured for off road and on road tuition and public liability and have been checked through the Criminal Records Bureau.

We have proved with previous successful driving courses that new drivers have acknowledged the necessities of safety and awareness in driving whilst participating on one of our driving courses. This is normally due to a more relaxed learning environment without having to deal with the concerns of other road users.

Countywide operates within the rules and regulations laid down by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA).  The DSA is an executive agency of the Department of Transport and was set up primarily to promote road safety in Great Britain.  The Agency endeavours “to influence drivers’ behaviour for the better throughout their driving career”.

If you feel you would like to take part in a ‘Start Right’ Pre-17 Driving Course in your School, College, University or a Local Site in Sussex . Countywide will be happy to arrange a meeting to discuss how we run the courses. Click for more information.
